Rock Climbing in Kalymnos

It is the most famous rock climbing destination in Greece. Kalymnos, is an island which is located between Kos and Leros. It is the fourth largest island in the Dodecanese. Because of its location, weather conditions are always good within a year for climbing. Major climbing area is within a walking distance of Massouri which has about 2.700 climbing routes of all grades. This area offers 1 and 2-pitch sport routes fine 4+ slabs to overhanging and pumpy 9a routes. The major routes are single pitches around 20 to 30 m, but there are also longer routes reaching 3 to 5. The rock is top quality solid limestone which is almost unpolished.

About the Island

Kalymnos, is also well known for other activities like diving for sponge. The area is hosting the world's finest sponge. It is a tradition and economical income for the island inhabitants. The sea has always been a central point for island life and its strong traditions and sense of community goes back to ancient greek mythology.

The picturesque landscapes is astonishing like the near by islands which are accessible very easily for daily trips. Other sporty activities is also welcome, the clear blue seas is ideal for snorkeling or scuba-diving.
